I was attending the 18th International Integrative Medicine Conference in Melbourne titled Bridging the Gap, August 31st – September 2nd. On the Saturday morning, I opened the curtains in my hotel room on the 20th floor. To my delight four large, colourful hot air balloons were hovering in the early morning light over the Melbourne Cricket Ground. They were so close I felt I could reach out and touch them. As I watched, they soared and drifted effortlessly out of sight. I was captivated by the unexpected scene.
That night as I closed the curtains, another wondrous sight greeted me. The MCG was ablaze with light for an AFL football match. High above the ground, amidst the towering stadium lights were dozens of white seagulls gracefully soaring and circling effortlessly, against the black backdrop of the night sky.
As I climbed into my bed and turned out the light, I thought of the two scenes I’d witnessed. Both were inspiring examples of effortless soaring – free of earthbound limitations. “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to do the same”, I thought wistfully.
As I drifted into contented rest, I recalled occasions in my life when I had soared above trouble, fear or sickness. I hadn’t had to struggle to rise above the chaos or illness. Gentle prayer had lifted my thinking effortlessly above the doubt and distress. Peace and wellness had been restored by my affirming that there is a divine Presence, loving and caring for me – keeping me safe from harm, meeting my needs.
Such tender prayer has raised my spirits many times. It’s freed me. It’s enabled me to soar mentally. You can do the same. Rest in the certainty of Love’s power. Be inspired. You are safe. Such prayer will bring you comfort and peace.

How wonderful, this sense of “effortlessness” , and the assurance that comfort and peace are the natural outcome of turning to God in prayer.
